A Little About Me
I have always been drawn to photography and literally grew up with a camera in my hand. Perhaps it was a function of always seeing my dad with at least three cameras around his neck on family vacations (35mm, video, and 3D) or perhaps it is just in my blood! My mom’s dad was a fantastic photographer who after taking photos documenting the tragedies that occurred in WWII in Germany came home to document decidedly happier moments. He captured many iconic images of Florida and amongst other things worked for National Geographic. I only wish that I could have actually met him, he died while my mom was still a teenager. But somehow I have always felt like he is up there smiling down on me, encouraging me, and maybe even giving me a spark of the immense talent he had. I see the world through the lens of a camera even when one is not in my hands. I didn’t go to school for photography though I wish I had. It wasn’t a choice I thought I had and was something I figured was an unattainable dream. Nonetheless through everything life has thrown at me the only two constants have been my dog Tucker and my love of photography. My school has been the world and countless hours of trial and error. I’ve learned about light, technique, composition, and a lot about what works and what doesn’t. But perhaps the most important lessen I’ve learned is patience and preparedness; sometimes to get the shot you have to wait for the right moment and then again you have to always be ready because sometimes magic just happens. There is no greater feeling than capturing a moment and knowing no it can last forever.
My Philosophy
There is beauty in every person and every situation. My job is to find it and let you see it too. I want you to walk away from a session with me saying “wow that was fun” and then be floored by the photos we create together.
For The Love Of A Camera
I picked up my first camera before I was ten and while many kids dreamed of a car for their sixteenth birthdays I had images of cannons dancing in my dreams. The first camera I actually owned was a 35mm Canon Rebel given to me by my dad, probably so he could have his camera back as it always seemed to be disappearing with me on adventures. By my 21st birthday I got my first digital camera, a Canon of course (powershot), and while small that camera and I went on adventures all over the world. I quickly outgrew that one and by the time I was finishing my masters degree I received a Canon Digital Rebel Xti for yet another birthday. Realizing I was serious about this photography thing my dad surprised me recently with a Canon Digital 7D, I was in Love! I still have every single camera I have ever owned, that is except for the very first canon I used whose ownership was always in dispute between my dad and I. He repossessed it upon giving me that very first Rebel.
